GOOD SAM TEACHING GARDEN

The pantry garden (in the parking lot behind our building) is growing again this year! Please join us for Indigenous Gardening Workshops, volunteer opportunities, classes and other workshops throughout the growing season. Click here to learn more.

COMMUNITY GARDENS

The Good Samaritan Center has been the fiscal sponsor and an active partner of Common Ground Community Gardens since 2017. The demonstration garden program provides us with hundreds of pounds of fresh, chemical-free produce every year. If you’d like a plot at one of the garden sites, you can find more information here or pick one up at the pantry.

WIC & OLDER ADULTS CSA PROGRAM

We are delighted to partner with Montezuma School to Farm Project to implement the Montezuma County WIC (Women, Infants & Children) Nutrition Program and Disabled American Veterans Outreach Center weekly CSA (Community-Supported Agriculture) Program. We work together to distribute CSA boxes for 16 weeks during the growing season. Click here to learn more about our farmers, producers and partners. Special thanks to Nourish Colorado for funding this program.

Diné bi Ch’iyáán: NAVAJO TRADITIONAL FOODS POP-UP

The Dolores Family Project and Good Sam’s Food Pantry are teaming up to distribute Diné traditional foods at two different locations. Click here to learn more!

COOKING SKILLS FOR SIMPLE MEALS
We’ll be sharing cooking tips and meal ideas using ingredients from the pantry. Topics include nutrition, food as medicine, food as culture and how to make the most of the ingredients we have.

PRESERVING & PROCESSING w/Common Ground Community Gardens

Seasons of abundance can last all year with some easy processing methods. We’ll discuss the basics of how and why we preserve food and experiment with techniques to see what works for you.

SHOPPING ON A BUDGET

Cooking Matters instructors have a lot of great tips to share on how to make trips to the grocery store easier, more cost-effective and a lot less stressful.

A variety of traditional foods are available during the Diné bi Ch’iyáán pop-ups, sourced from Indigenous producers throughout the Four Corners and funded in part by the Colorado Food Pantry Assistance Grant.

COLLECTIVE HEALTH

Let’s work together for a just and healthy community. We will have an open agenda with the goal of addressing issues that affect all of us and our quality of life. We’ll connect our efforts to improve pantry operations, expand opportunities and increase member involvement when applicable. We will learn how to lead ourselves to health, autonomy and collective care. Childcare and stipends for your time are available.
